Power BI
Connect Power BI to Telescope to build climate risk reports on top of your portfolio: which properties are exposed to which hazards, how much value is at risk, where biodiversity matters, and which buildings have poor energy labels.

How it works
Power BI reads the Telescope API directly with Power Query. You don't need a custom connector, a gateway or any software from Telescope. You paste a few short queries into Power BI Desktop, and they:
- send your API key in the
X-API-Keyheader, - page through every property, 100 at a time,
- split each property's nested results into their own tables.
You end up with this model:
| Table | One row per | Joined on |
|---|---|---|
Portfolios | portfolio, including nested ones | id |
Properties | property | id, and portfolio_id to Portfolios |
Hazards | climate hazard result of a property | property_id |
Biodiversity | biodiversity result of a property | property_id |
Buildings | building on a property | property_id |
EnergyCertificates | energy certificate of a property | property_id |
Each refresh reloads everything, so the report always matches Telescope, including properties that were deleted and results that changed.
What you need
- Power BI Desktop, to build the report.
- A Telescope API key. See Create an API key. Create a separate key for Power BI.
- Optional: a Power BI Service workspace, to publish the report and refresh it on a schedule.
Steps
- Connect to Telescope: add the queries in Power BI Desktop.
- Set up the data model: relationships, sorting and measures.
- Schedule refresh: publish to Power BI Service and keep the data current.
Not using Power BI?
The same approach works in Excel, which uses the same Power Query engine: paste the queries under Data → Get Data → From Other Sources → Blank Query.
